He talked a lot about the Bible so that people wouldn’t catch on to the fact that it was the only book he had ever read.
The architect built a monument to his lover: a proud, phallic structure. He eroticized his work to such a point that even hearing his contracted workers speak of it made him jealous. In the end, having hired and subsequently fired everyone in town, he built the tower alone, with his bare hands.
He walked for years on end, back and forth between the quarry and the tower, seeming to shrink as the tower grew. Stone by stone, he resurrected his lover. Pound by pound, he disappeared.
Once finished, he flung his body from the tower. The scraps of his fragile body mixed with the stones at his lover’s feet.

Paradoxically, in doing so, he quickly assimilated to the behaviour patterns of a new group: people who had recently read Heidegger’s Sein und Zeit.
They escaped the city lights by driving to the desert, wearing nothing but Botox smiles and neon bum bags.
They founded a city there. A new sort of city with one simple manifesto: “The only reading material shall be billboards.”
Over time they managed to fill the emptiness
with emptiness.
Paradise.
